Our goal is to create an environment, which is stimulating and safe for your child. This includes assisting children in making appropriate behavioral choices. The desired 4th grade rules have been decided upon, discussed in each class, and posted for all to see. Each child will be able to keep track of his/her personal behavior by use of a behavioral chart on Dojo that shows their points based on students chosen behavior.
Classroom RulesConsequences 1. Be prepared 1. Verbal Warning 2. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself 2. Teacher's Choice at Recess or Silent Lunch 3. Stay on task 3. Parent Contact 4. Follow directions 4. Office Referral 5. Be respectful
Capturing Kids Hearts CKH, a process aimed at building relationships and creating a safe, effective environment for learning.
What does it look like in our classroom? In addition to classroom rules, we will have a Social Contract that will be created during the first few days of school. The students will create a Social Contract for our classroom with words to describe how they want to be treated and how others want to be treated. Once this contract is created, everyone is invited to sign it. The expectation is that everyone follows the social contract and that students monitor their own behavior so the teacher doesn't have to intervene. In turn, if the teacher doesn't have to intervene, then there are no consequences. Students are taught hand signals that will be used to direct behaviors. There is a time-out sign, check your neighbor sign, and foul sign. The time-out is used to get all students quiet and still quickly. The check your neighbor sign is used to help a neighbor get back on task. A foul sign is used when someone shows disrespect. The student upon whom a foul is called is to give 2 complements to the other student. When students do not follow the social contract, they will be asked a series of questions. If the student answers the questions and corrects his behavior, there are no consequences. On the third violation of the social contract, the student is asked to go in another classroom to refocus. ********************************************************************************************************* We view home and school communication as a very important tool to your child’s success in school. Your child will have a HOMEWORK FOLDER that he/she should bring home daily. Each day your child will bring home his/her assignments in this folder. Your child will also bring home his/her STUDENT PLANNER daily. This is where your child will record homework assignments for the night. Your child will also have a FRIDAY FOLDER. It will contain any important information/forms, as well as your child’s corrected work from the past week. Please take some time to review this information with your child.
Schoolwork and Homework Policy The fourth grade team believes that behaviors and academics are linked. Homework is meant to reinforce skills taught in the classroom and along with responsibility. The students will have ample opportunities to achieve success in the classroom. Each week, Students will be provided with mathematics and reading assignments or projects that are meant to reinforce, enrich and support the curriculum. In addition, students will be required to read for 20 minutes each night. Homework is to be completed on time with the student’s best effort. Neatness is expected on all assignments. Homework will be turned in to the teacher at the beginning of class each school day . Students are rewarded for consistently completing their homework. Additional practice can be sent home upon request.
Student Home Work Responsibilities
1. Record assignments in agenda book 2. Complete all assignments neatly 3. Return completed assignments to school the following day or by the due date given.
Redo, schoolwork/ homework: If your child receives a Unsatisfactory, they have the opportunity to do that assignment over. They must not erase anything on their original paper because we need to be able to see what was done wrong so we can help. They should redo the assignment on a separate sheet of paper, write the page number on the top of that paper, and staple it to the original assignment. They only need to redo the problems they had wrong, not the whole assignment. Then we will correct it again. This should help to raise the students grades and ensure success for everyone. If they still make some big mistakes, we will discuss it with them, and let them try it over one more time. We will not keep after the children to redo their assignments. It is their responsibility to do this on their own. We are always here to help with any assignment during the appropriate time of the school day.
HOT: The fourth grade teachers use a system called HOT (Homework (Schoolwork) Over Time) for late/missing work. When an assignment is not turned in on time or completed by the deadline, the student will be required to attend the next HOT period (working lunch and recess). You will receive a Dojo message that your child did not complete their classwork/ homework or that it was incomplete and had to attend a HOT session. *************************************************************** Student Expectations (Virtual Learning) It is important that students understand their responsibility as learners to engage in our classrooms each day. In addition, they are responsible for the same code of conduct rules as if they were in the building. This includes appropriate online behavior within the Learning Platform.
